Directing

My favorite part of developing new stories is collaborating with other people. I love directing at any part of the process— from readings and workshops to formal productions in parks, blackboxes, or even concert halls. Take a look at some of my recent projects:
MUSIC AT THE CLOSE
I adapted and co-directed this experimental exploration of Shakespeare’s Richard II with the Glassbox Collective at Carnegie Hall in November 2019.
Music at the Close involved three directors, five actors, ten composers and thirty-two performing musicians, using the narrative and themes of Richard II to feature ten new works for small string and woodwind ensembles. These compositions, in conjunction with an improvisatory ensemble including piano extended-techniques, upright bass and disassembled drum-kit, interacted with a group of five actors to create an amalgam of music, text, and movement.
THEODORE IN THE VALLEY
I directed the premiere of this new musical by Ted Bushman in Fort Tryon Park in New York City in preparation for a U.S. National Parks Tour.
Theodore in the Valley is about the heart, the hurt, and the healing of Theodore Roosevelt, and how his formative experiences in the American West led to his creation of the National Parks. The show played beautifully in the natural environment and we loved watching park goers enjoy the original folk music and inspiring story against a setting sun or rainy drizzle.
BAD TIMING
I directed this short film while attending graduate school for my Masters in Creative Writing for the Performing Arts at University of California at Riverside.
The script was written by acclaimed screenwriter Stu Krieger with cinematography by Academy Award Nominated Director of Photography Dean Cundey. Learning the art of film direction from masters in their craft made me fall in love with filmmaking.
Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab
In 2018 I was invited to become a member of the LCT Directors Lab, a group of 70 directors from all over the world. We spent a couple weeks in New York City learning from each other. The connections we made and pieces we created have sparked many subsequent collaborations in several different countries. I love being a part of this enriching network.
